Happy Women's Equality Day!

Thanks to Rep. Bella Abzug who first established this day (Aug. 26) in 1971 to commemorate the passage of the 19th Amendment!

Glass half-empty view of today:
-It took women 72 years of ceaseless campaigning to finally win the right to vote in 1920.
-A women only makes $.77 to a man's dollar.
-The US is near the bottom of the list for quality childcare for children of working parents.
-Women still only make up 16 percent of our representatives in Congress.
-Hillary is not going to be president - or vice president (thanks a lot B.O.) - this time.

Bottom line: We have a long haul before women are treated truly equal in this country.

Single-serving stupid-ness

I have had it with single-serving packaging. No. 1 - no one eats one serving! And if they do, they think it's so small they don't even count it. The WORST is the 100-calories "snacks," which are mostly refined flour and sugar - destined to wind up as belly fat. Ridiculous! Today, I saw an ad for single-serving pudding. Now, let me just say that I do like pudding. However, I stopped eating pudding like it was a "healthy treat" a few years ago, because IT IS NOT. It is SO FULL OF SODIUM! IT IS NOT EVEN FUNNY! There is 310 mg of sodium in ONE serving, which no one eats, they eat two, three ... So let's say you eat two servings ... a total of only 70 calories. That's great! Right? Wrong! Those 2 servings have 620 mg of sodium. A healthy person should eat less than 2,300 mg of sodium a day - those with heart disease and other conditions should have less. So, in addition to all the other sodium you have in food - even a 12-ounce Diet Coke has 40 mg of sodium - I have news about pudding (and jello, too): There is NOT always room for it.
