Happy Halloweeny!

As much as I LOVE Halloween, I am sad to report that I did not dress up this year. Usually I dress up for my classes, but today I am teaching box right after work and I didn't have time to change into a costume. Boo. No fun. I wanted to be a gym teacher with knee-high socks (the kind with the stripe around the calf) and those short runners shorts with the white trim that were popular in the 80s. Oh, well. Next year, for sure!

RIP Crusher

Professional wrestler Reggie "The Crusher" Lisowski died over the weekend from complications from a brain tumor. He was 79. "He worked out on his last day. That's how he wanted to go," said David Lisowski, of Delafield. "He did concentration curls and triceps work. He just had to work out every day. ... In his mind, he never thought he was old."

Richard Simmons!

Make sure to Tivo Martha on Tuesday: Richard Simmons is going to be on! Oh, I love him so much. I don't really like the way he acts on Letterman; however, I do like the way he has helped so many overweight people enjoying MOVEMENT, with things like Sweatin' to the Oldies. Can't wait to watch!

Speaking of Martha: On Friday, she used the word "peripatetic," which is a GRE word! What a coincidence. That is a great word by the way, it means moving all around. Like if you keep running into someone, at the gym and at the store, etc., you could say, "Oh, hello again! You are so peripatetic!" And then they would be like, "Ummmm ... thanks?"

Thirdly, just a reminder that November is Adoption Awareness Month.
Most of us are 8 years old and older. Many of us have brothers and sisters and we need families who can keep us together. We have lost so much in our short lives … What we really, really need the most is a grownup (or two) of our own who will teach us stuff and stick up for us and stick around and be our family!

Don't blame Ronald!

  • If you mow on french fries everyday, don't blame McDonald's if you weigh more than a truck load of big mac patties. The Republican-controlled House voted Wednesday to shield fast-food chains from lawsuits that blame them for making people fat. On one hand, this is good. Take responsibility for what you put in your own mouth. However, the Republicans did this to protect the fast food industry.

  • Hip! Hip! Horray! For Herceptin!

Drug halves breast cancer relapse rate for some: Several experts used words like "revolutionary," "stunning" and "jaw-dropping" to describe the findings on the impact of the drug, Herceptin. Some even talked of a "cure" for a considerable number of women .... It remains unclear whether Herceptin should be taken with chemotherapy drugs or afterward, and whether it can help even years later. Herceptin appears so potent, some researchers said, that it raises the possibility that targeted drugs will someday let patients skip chemotherapy, radiation and surgery, which destroy both healthy and diseased tissue.

    Midwest Natural Bodybuilding and Figure

First of all HAPPY BIRTHDAY to my friend Kristina, AKA Chewie! Here's a special shout out to you: Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaarrrgh. Grrf.

(Even though she is a flatlander, FIB, she is OK. Hee hee.)

Second of all: Good luck to all the atheletes participating in the Midwest Natural Bodybuilding and Figure Championships Saturday in Madison! Last spring's show has a great turnout -- especially for Middleweight men. So it should be good. Tickets are still available. Call 608-249-4227.

I ordered my tickets for Kevin Noble's Nov. 12 show. Which is on my birthday! I am really looking forward to that show because that will be my first spring show. So it will definitely pysche me up. Also Jennifer Abrams is guest posing, who is awesome. Definitely check it out!

My training is going pretty well. I am focusing on my lats this winter so that is pretty fun. So basically pull-ups, pull-ups and more pull-ups!

The Force will be with you, always.

Every Day is a New Battle

Bodybuilding.com has a new list called, 101 Ways To Motivate Yourself." Here is my favorite: /Write "Every Day is a New Battle" on your bathroom mirror./ I really like that one because, if you are like me (and I hope not! haha), sometimes I wake up in the morning and I think, "Geez, why did I eat that yesterday?!" Or: "I am not sore, I should have lifted harder!" And then it can get you down. But really, you just have to try harder that day. You can't do anything about yesterday. Right? Right!

    Halloween

Geez, forget Turkey Day. First we have to get through Halloween, right? Actually I don't really worry about Halloween much. My favorite thing is just scaring people. Boo! So watch out ...

    Six Weeks Til Turkey Day

Can that be right? Yep, only six weeks until Thanksgiving. That means that you have to start doing just a little more calorie-burning activity everyweek to make up for the holiday eating season that lasts through December. (Unless you are one of those people who don't splurge on Christmas cookies, breads and all that kind of stuff.) Better to prepare now than freak out later.
